Duration: 8 days – 7 nights.

Travel: Pune- Ahmedabad-Pune by flight, and we hired Indigo for the internal travel.

Day 1

Ahmedabad – LRK (100 kms and 2 hours) 

Arrive Ahmedabad and drive to http://swatisnacks.com/ for lunch.

Continue to the little Rann of Kutch. Check in at “Bhavna Resort and Farm”. Take the evening safari to see the salt factory and sunset at the Rann.

(My review of Bhavna farm: Good ambience, good food and friendly hosts. The rooms from inside are average and the bathrooms could be better. Overall a good budget option.)

Day 2

LRK – Devpur (Approx 300 kms and 6 hours)

Take morning safari to see the Wild Ass of Kutch and birds.  Have brunch and leave for Devpur. Enroute make stops to break journey and see Ajrakhpur, www.khamir.org and www.shrujan.org and reach Devpur  by evening.

Day 3

Devpur – West Kutch tour (250 kms round trip and 5 hours).

After breakfast leave for west Kutch. Visit Mata na Madh, then Lakhpat and have langar at the durudwara, then cover Narayansarovar and Koteshwar. Return to Devpur for night stay

Day 4

Devpur – South Kutch tour (150 kms round trip and 3 hours).

After breakfast leave for South Kutch. Visit Mandvi town and bazaar, ship building yard and ship model making workshop, Shyamji Krushna Verma Memorial (must try dabeli @ the canteen here), Vijay Vilas Palace and beach. You can enjoy lunch at the “Mandavi beach camp resort” just outside the Palace gates and gain access to the private beach near Mandvi, instead of the public Mandvi beach. Return to Devpur for night stay.

Day 5

Devpur- Nirona – Hodka (150 kms and 3 hours).

Check out after breakfast and leave for North Kutch. Visit Kutch Fossil Park, Nirona village (www.traditionalroganart.com copper bell and lacquer work). Reach Hodka for lunch. Check in to Shaam-e-Sarhad and post lunch participate in the Rann Utsav and see the sunset on the salt flats. Return to Shaam-e-Sarhad for night stay.

(My review of Shaam-e-Sarhad: We stayed in the eco-friendly tent. Good tent, good bathroom and good food, although less options for breakfast. The nights are very chilly and it is recommended to carry warm clothing. Overall good option)

Day 6

Hodka – Kalo Dungar – Bhuj (200 kms and 4 hours).

Leave after breakfast and visit Khavda, Kalo Dungar and reach Bhuj for lunch. Visit Pragmahal, Bhuj chattardi and then the weaving village of Bhujodi, Hira Lakshmi Memorial Craft Park.  Reach Bhachau by 5pm and camp the night at hotel Shiv International.

(My review of  hotel Shiv International: This turned out to be better than my expectation. We had booked a super deluxe room. It was nice and spacious and clean with good bathrooms. The food is also good enough. A good option and also saves time to travel to Ahmedabad the next day)

Day 7

Bhachau – Patan – Modhera – Ahmedabad (300 kms and 6 hours).

Have early breakfast and continue to Ahmedabad. Visit Patan, rani ki vav and Modhera on the way. Camp the night at El Dorado hotel in Ahmedabad.

(My review of El Dorado hotel: We had booked the Gold room. Good interiors, but the rooms are small. Good location. Good breakfast options. Recommended!)

Day 8

Leisure and departure to your city. We took the opportunity to visit Kankeriya Zoo, which was very good. Kids will enjoy the zoo and the toy train ride here. We then had lunch @ Swati snacks and departed.
