Mauritius has been ticked off my bucket list now 🙂  Its a must visit destination for all who love sun and sand. Here I’m sharing the most memorable experiences I had in Mauritius:
Underwater sea walk:
We experienced the underwater sea walk at the Belle Mare beach. It is one of the best and highly recommended experiences. Here you are transferred from a speed boat further down the sea and then once you change into the gear you climb down into the water and can walk around and feed the fish. You don’t need to know how to swim for this activity and it’s performed under professional guidance. The charges are approximately 1200 MUR.
Catamaran ride to Ile aux Cerf Island:
In a lovely setup of transparent turquoise blue waters and a backdrop of majestic mountains you cruise in a catamaran to a picturesque island. Along the way one can swim in the shallow waters or snorkel. We also visited a lovely waterfall from the boat before having a swim in the cool waters on the island. This cruise starts around 9 am and returns around 4 pm.
Casela Wildlife reserve:
Kids had an amazing time at this place which houses lions, tigers, zebras, ostrich, hyenas, rhinos, giraffe and an amazing collection of birds. The safari rides are super fun. One can also enjoy activities like Segway, quad-bikes and zip lines. Time just flies once you are inside this place.
Sunset at Flic en Flac beach:
Reach this place before sunset to have a nice swim in the cool blues and witness the colorful sky as the sun meets the horizon. The beach is pristine with white sand for kids to play around or just lie around lazily. Do watch out for the corals on this beach.
Breathtaking viewpoints:
Some of the view points here are highly recommended:
Macondé: Between Le Morne and Baie du Cap, a very beautiful hairpin curve is located called as Macondé which you need to cross if you are driving along the coastal road in the south of Mauritius. It is worthwhile to stop the car behind the curve and climb up the rock for a breathtaking view. The peak of the rock ends in the Indian Ocean.
Gris Gris: The best place to experience the windswept wild sea is by standing on top of the grassy cliffs above beautiful Gris Gris beach, just outside the small village of Souillac, where monster waves roll in and crash against the rocks.
Glass bottom boat ride at Blue Bay:
Once you reach the bay of Blue Bay Marine Park, you will feast your eyes on some of the bluest waters. When you see the turquoise blue color of the lagoon you will understand where the name comes from. The Blue Bay Marine Park is home to mangroves, algae, sea grasses, corals, and other marine organisms. We could spot the large Trumpet fish, balloon fish, a large sea turtle and numerous other colorful fishes.
Dolphin cruise:
We took the dolphin cruise from one of the public beaches. After an exciting speed boat ride through the sea we were lucky to spot a number of dolphins in small groups, mostly the Bottlenose Dolphin. Our boat members also indulged in “swim with the dolphins” program and it was delightful to watch the dolphins up close. They also tossed up in the air to the loud cheer of the spectators 🙂
Eat Local:
As per the season you travel do try the seasonal fruits here. We hogged loads of juicy little pineapples, raw mangoes, Chinese potatoes and fresh sugarcane. The local Phoenix beer is also worth a try and so is the Dholl Puri. You can also try the different spicy chilies.
Other places worth a visit:
Port Louis tour, Chamarel 7 color earth, Caudan Waterfront and La Vanille Crocodile Park.
Duration: 7 days – 6 nights
Stay:Â Our friend, Mandar Apte, was kind to host us so cannot recommend a stay option this time.
